Apathy –
Our Greatest Enemy

Monday, June 9, 2008

By Bill Lussenheide

Recent elections in California resulted in a turnout of just 20% of the electorate. In my Riverside Country, it was just 18%. A sad commentary of our times, for the hard fought voting privilege that men have gave their life for, as a gift to us.

It is obvious that our Country suffers from APATHY. What are the roots of apathy, its symptoms, and what are the answers to this problem? What does it mean to our Country, our Party, and our Churches?

Apathy, according to Webster's is defined as "lack of emotion", "lack of interest" and "indifference".

I believe that the origins of this apathy malaise, come from the following collective "funk" of society...

    * No expectation of change
    *No Hope
    *Laziness
    *Denial of duty
    *"I'm doing fine"
    * I've got mine, so to heck with everyone else
    * The dehumanizing
effects of a "mass society", that reduces you to a "number in the system" and not an effective free, empowered individual with control of ones own destiny at any level of life.

The antidote to apathy?... I believe that apathy can be cured with the following commitments by a few, which in turn will catch the imagination of the many...

    * Dream and dream big! Not only can we restore what we have lost as a people, we can even do it better! We serve a Great God, with a God breathed document called the Constitution. All the power of the universe lay at his throne. We need to imagine his and our good dreams for this country as real, and ask our Creator to help us continually, and have faith that he will indeed answer.

    * Have "inspirational dissatisfaction". Allow the pain of our current problems and issues to MOTIVATE us to change. Embrace this discomfort as a blessing that is calling to us for progress. Don't just become a whiner! Take action !, and begin by changing yourself in self leadership and a renewed calling to self sacrifice and action.

    * Live it, eat it, sleep it. Your light of self leadership will rub off on others. In a world of apathy, true leadership is rare. Be an opinion maker, a trend setter, and stand tall in all that you do. I see that people will rub their eyes from their grogginess when there is movement around them. We do not have the option of ever quitting from this calling.

Remember that it only takes a few "voices in the wilderness" to make all the difference. If just 18% of society is voting, then this means that we need only inspire and motivate 9% of all society to become a majority and move our country back on track. I know that at least 9% of our society still cares inside deep down . They are waiting for us to simply water those buried seeds! I know that it is doable!

Friends, perhaps we have been guilty of being in a touch of a slumber and apathy in recent years. I too have been guilty, capitulating to a "the Republicans will take care of it" attitude in my past. Any challenges that are awakening and motivating you to help our country at this time should be considered a catalyst of change, that will help catapult us to a renewed vigor and better tomorrow as a righteous Country under God. Be thankful for it!

VOTE for the American Independent/Constitution Party. Make it happen! Make tommorow even better than our yesterday!
