Observations from GOP Convention & Ron Paul Liberty event

Day Two: September 2, 2008
This was a special day. I did not attend the GOP convention, I went to the
Ron Paul Liberty event held at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.
Unlike the zoo over in St. Paul, parking was a snap even with thousands
of cars all arriving at virtually the same time. I was grateful that
upon arriving, I could proceed straight to the media center downstairs
instead of having to stand in the long lines to get in; Ron Paul's folks
were kind enough to put me on the list ahead of time. The preparations
were a great success and that arena was something to see.
The Rally for the Republic was truly an amazing event. How the poltroons
who were running the GOP Convention must have been steaming (and worried)
over the huge turn out: 10,000 strong. There were a small number of
GOP delegates who were not Ron Paul supporters who did attend and perhaps
their eyes were opened by what they saw and heard. While the Republicans
chanted a new slogan at their convention, "country above party,"
which we know is a farce coming from either of the two "main"
parties, it is a very real concept for those of us who attended Ron
Paul's event. You have to plant the seeds for the oak tree to grow,
so let us hope those delegates who attended received a lot of food for
thought and will talk it over with their GOP friends and delegates.

were just two among many. I might also add that the morning after my
arrival at my hotel, I opened the door to see a green canvas bag hanging
on the door. These gift bags were provided by the hotel for delegates
and media. Lots of goodies, but one thing that surprised me: A beautiful
leather pocket size 'Guide to the Constitution of the United States'!
I was impressed. A hotel actually giving copies of the U.S. Constitution
and Bill of Rights to guests.
I want to tell you that the Rally for The Republic was as different from
the GOP horse and pony show as light vs dark. Truth vs propaganda. Speakers
included Barry Goldwater, Jr., Jesse Ventura, Bruce Fein, Lew Rockwell
and others. Of course, the grand finale was Ron Paul, the greatest statesman
of my time. Unlike some, I don't idolize or worship Ron Paul. I have
a few areas of disagreement with him, but I have the greatest and deepest
respect for that man. I've never met him, although I would like to some
day. Ron Paul never wavers or flip flops in his beliefs or as a member
of the U.S. Congress. When it comes to constitutional government, he
stays the course.
C-SPAN/2 covered the event from start to finish. As Ron Paul said in a statement,
September 8, 2008:
Dear friends,
What a thrilling week we've just had - three days of wonderful events, culminating
in the great Rally for the Republic on September 2, which C-SPAN2 covered
in its entirety. Americans got to hear more truth in our one day in
Minneapolis than in decades' worth of standard political conventions.
I hope you were as impressed with the speakers and the performances as
I was. The day reaffirmed for me that the movement on behalf of our
philosophy is blessed with brains, talent, and verve.
If you missed it, we'll be making the whole thing available soon. In the
meantime, you can watch whatever speakers you'd like to see
right here.
Now it's time to turn to the hard work of the Campaign
for Liberty. We have our work cut out for us. Our economic woes
are being foolishly blamed on the free market. The federal government
is taking over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as those of us with any sense
feared it would. We face the looming prospect of still more wars: with
Iran, Russia, and now Pakistan.
We need to inject some sanity into these debates.
Right now, though, I wish simply to thank you for all your sacrifices and
hard work. Just when I think I cannot be any more amazed by your commitment
to our ideas, you go and surprise me again. I deeply appreciate your
devotion to our cause.
Remember one of the most important things our presidential campaign proved: there
are millions of us out there. If 1.2 million Americans voted for our
ideas in a Republican primary, think of how many more there must be.
We are not alone. We know that now. And when it comes to energy, creativity,
and enthusiasm, our side wins hands down. I know these will be our secret
weapons as we keep up the fight in these dark times to restore our republic,
and to see peace and prosperity transformed from a campaign slogan into
a way of life.
Please, recruit one more person to the Campaign for Liberty today.

on videos. I guarantee you will be amazed and delighted with what went
on and the plans for America. I wasn't able to stay for Ron Paul's speech
as I needed to get back to my hotel to do Jeff Rense's radio show, but
I have watched
his speech here; about 14 minutes into the video.
If Americans would compare what was said at that event and what they were
served up at the GOP and DNC conventions, they would get nourishment
for their soul and real hope for the future. But, as Ron Paul points
out above, we have our work cut out for us. We cannot stop what's coming,
we can only mitigate the destruction with sanity, reason and organization.
I would also like to take this time to thank those who donated to make
my trip possible and to stay three of the four days. It goes without
saying that donations are a financial sacrifice for many. I am very
