“Sarah Dear Sarah:
Please Don’t Run For President!”

Thursday, January 21, 2010

By Ron Ewart

At the risk of offending many, we go boldly forth into no-man’s-land and take issue with what appears to be the prevailing wisdom, that the rise of Sarah Palin to the level of conservative nirvana is just short of inventing the electric light bulb. We have had these opposing views since she first suddenly appeared on the scene, out of virtual obscurity, during the last 80 days of the 2008 Republican campaign for president.

In fairness, let us first accentuate her positives. She is an attractive woman with excellent bearing, of quick whit and mind, apparently an exemplary wife and mother and she says all the things that conservatives want to hear. Sarah is at home in nature and from all appearances can site word-for-word from the book Wildwood Wisdom. She is hunter, fisherwoman and fully prepared outdoorswoman. Alone in the picturesque valleys and mountains of Alaska, a grizzly bear would be wise to give her wide berth.

She seems to have no fear of taking on the establishment in either party. She has no compunction about challenging what the good 'ole boys are doing in the backrooms of power. That’s all well and good.

But like so many things in life, in many areas people can be what is commonly known as fish out of water. We used to be in awe of doctors until one day we were closing a deal on a large medical building that 10 doctors owned and were selling and leasing back. We were buying the building and then turning around and selling it to our investor. During the escrow closing it was readily apparent that the doctors were truly “fish out of water” and relied totally on their attorneys to “protect” them in the deal. (As an aside, anyone who believes that an attorney will “protect” them has mush for brains.) In any event, any illusion we possessed about being in awe of doctors was quickly erased that day.

Don’t forget our powerful message to Congress in the form of “A PETITION DEMANDING CERTAIN ACTIONS TO BE IMMEDIATELY TAKEN BY THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS”. A printable copy of the petition can be obtained by logging onto: http://www.narlo.org/CFL Petition.pdf.

So how does this apply to the lovely and talented Sarah Palin? Just this: being the Governor of a State is a far cry from dealing with the “MEN” who run this world. Picture the dainty Miss Palin “loosely” shaking hands with the brute of the Russian KGB, Vladimir Putin. Or let’s just say she is sitting down in the lavishly punctuated tent (or palace) of a Saudi King, with women in veils hiding behind the curtains, or meeting with the insane mad man “Awk-da-mina-nut-job” of Iran, to negotiate some deal, or a weapons treaty, or to free some Americans held captive. Women to these despots and dictators are chattel. They laugh at women. They abuse them. They boss them around. Women are their play things. They have very little respect for what a woman does, or says, only that she will produce them an heir and stays out of the affairs (literally and figuratively) of men. Remember, the great Mohammed decreed that men could have four wives. Of course, being supreme leader, he had ten.

The hard fact is, Sarah Palin is not a Golda Meir, a Margaret Thatcher, or even an Eva Peron. She is just plain too nice, which then makes her just plain too soft. She will be intimidated by the “men” who run this planet, by the mere fact of gender biology and male bias. It is a given that Sarah Palin will not intimidate the men of this world, nor the blithering idiots that occupy the asylum known as the U. S. Congress, who provide all the mildly entertaining antics of the children in an elementary school yard. Sarah had difficulty with Katie Couric, how then is she to converse intelligently with a powerful leader and not get flustered?

Sarah Palin is now stumping for John McCain whose staff threw her under the bus with no provocation. John McCain is the antithesis (he is a progressive) of what Sarah Palin preaches, which makes her a conservative hypocrite.

We believe that she is what the colonists called, when their flintlock’s pan flashed but no bullet came out …… “a flash in the pan”. She could easily return to obscurity when the “flash” looses its brilliance. Right now, she is America’s sweetheart and we all love our sweethearts. But sweethearts don't negotiate deals that change the course of history. Powerful men do, with few exceptions. However, what beautiful sweethearts do do, is to cloud the objectivity of a man's mind when his hormones are running unchecked.

It is virtually assured that we will be assailed with accusations of sexist, but with all due respect to the fairer sex, Sarah Palin as President of the United States of America, is a square peg in a round hole and we may be the only one with the courage to say it.

Which leads us to the question, where are the tall, powerful men who will honorably lead a prosperous America into the future and vigorously protect her freedom, her liberty and her sovereignty, as they swear on solemn oath to do? Where is the man who will stare down and intimidate the Putins, Saudi Kings and dictators of the world, as truly the most powerful man in the free world, in word and deed and will not be an American apologist like our current embarrassing President? So far, this tall, powerful and honorable man has yet to materialize and we are left to look at a beautiful woman who says what we want to hear. The trouble is, she walks softly, but she carries no “stick“.
